2026 Seafood Stars Award Recipients

The 2026 awards recognised six exceptional individuals and organisations whose work reflects the vision of a sustainable, innovative and thriving seafood industry.

Life Membership Awards

Dr Paul Breen

Recognised for his outstanding contribution to fisheries science and management, particularly his work supporting sustainable rock lobster fisheries and advancing New Zealand’s fisheries management systems.

Dr Pamela Mace

Honoured for more than three decades of leadership in fisheries science and her significant contribution to stock assessment science, harvest strategies and sustainable fisheries management.

Future Adaptation Award

Moana New Zealand

Awarded for the development and delivery of Responsible Fisher Workshops, supporting fishers to adopt innovative technologies, improve environmental performance and strengthen fisheries stewardship.

Young Achiever Award

Jake Dikstaal

Recognised for his leadership at Leigh Fish, contributions to scientific research, seabird mitigation initiatives and ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of seafood industry professionals.

WISA Champions of Women in Seafood Award

Donna Wells

Honoured for her longstanding contribution to the seafood sector, including building a respected quota brokerage business and championing opportunities for women in seafood.

Telling Our Story Award

Rex Chapman

Recognised for his commitment to sharing the story of New Zealand seafood and providing an informed industry voice through media, community engagement and public advocacy.
