Nominations for the 2025 Seafood Stars Awards are now open.

The easiest way to nominate an individual or organisation is to complete our online form.

Nominations close: 5pm 27 June 2025.

About Seafood Stars Awards


Since 2016, the Seafood New Zealand Conference has celebrated the outstanding people behind Aotearoa New Zealand’s seafood industry. This year marks the 10th time these awards will be presented, with five categories recognising excellence across the sector. New for 2025 is the Telling Our Story Award, honouring an individual, business, or organisation in commercial fishing that has helped build public understanding and social licence by proudly sharing their story.
 



2025 Award categories:


1. Future Adaptation Award

This award is presented to the person or organisation that has adapted their fishing or processing practices to: 

  • Reduce adverse impacts on the environment that lead to a lower carbon footprint, 
  • Reduce waste,  
  • Reduce adverse impacts on the marine environment, or 
  • Reduce adverse impacts on protected species 

2. Young Achiever Award

This award is presented to a person, 35 years of age or under, who has demonstrated that he or she has made a positive difference to the seafood industry, and has the potential to continue to develop as an effective and respected seafood industry leader or role model. 

3. Life Membership Award (maximum of two awarded per year)

This award is presented to a person who: 

  • Has worked in the seafood industry for a minimum of 15 years, and  
  • Has made a substantial positive impact on the seafood industry, and  
  • Has been a highly effective and respected seafood industry member. 

4. ACC Workplace Wellbeing Award

This award recognises organisations or individuals whose innovative leadership and approach to a safe and supportive workplace/s has contributed to the improved health, safety and wellbeing outcomes. It is awarded to an organisation, business or individual that:

  • Has embedded a culture of supporting injured staff through return to work plans, or
  • Has implemented health, safety and wellbeing innovations to keep people safe and enhance their wellbeing, or
  • Has implemented a training initiative to improve awareness of hazards

5. Telling Our Story Award

This award is presented to a person or organisation that is proactively sharing their story with the public of New Zealand and showcasing;

  • the work they are doing to fish sustainably, or
  • the work they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment or protected species, or
  • the outstanding product they are harvesting
  • the benefits of a career in the seafood sector.
